Tristan retired as a DCI from Kent Police in October 2020. A career Detective, he specialised in Homicide, Serious and Organised Crime, Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS), Kidnap and Extortion, and in Neurodiversity within the Policing environment. He remains working within Major Crime Investigation as part of the Senior Management Team on a cold case multi-Homicide investigation.
He has served within Specialist Crime roles at all ranks and held the Kent Police portfolio for Kidnap at regional level. He has eight Judges commendations and seven Chief Constable Certificates of Commendations & Merit.
He has National accreditation as a Senior Investigating Officer in Homicide (PIP3), also Kidnap and Extortion, and he is a Covert Law Enforcement Manager. He is also an accredited CHIS handler and controller with both the Police and other Services. He is also a Tier 5 Interview Advisor.
He concluded his service in Kent’s Major Crime Department, leading numerous murder investigations. His experience within this field includes investigating cases of organised criminal group killings, high profile Category A murders, ‘County Line’ killings, baby deaths, stranger rapes, and kidnap offences.
Prior to this he worked in the Counter Terrorism intelligence arena with the Security Services. He also spent significant time leading covert and overt investigations within serious and organised crime dealing with high level criminal networks and their involvement in offences such as drugs importation, modern day slavery, and armed robberies.
Tristan is an experienced leader with an extremely broad skills & knowledge base. He delivered many practitioner inputs to various detective training courses and to Tactical Firearms Commander Courses. He has also assisted in the design and delivery of Hydra immersive learning courses as a facilitator.
Tristan has a keen personal interest and significant expertise around inclusion and diversity. He was the Kent Police lead for the National Police Autism Association and Crystal Clear, a police disability and support association. He trains and consults on the subject matter and has made significant contribution to shaping policy, recruitment, and best practice within the Service.
He is passionate about changing the experience of staff, witnesses, and victims with Neurodivergent conditions within the Policing environment. Tristan puts many of his strengths down to his own Neurodiverse thinking which enable him to have unique perspective and approach to problems and investigation.
