Nicky Arrowsmith

Former Detective Superintendent

PIP 3, Safeguarding

Nicky served with the Met’ Police from 1993, retiring very recently as a Detective Superintendent and Head of CID. Her specialisms range from local major crime investigation, to leading serious and complex enquiries.

She has proactive and reactive investigative experience within Specialist Crime Command- Murder Investigation Team, gang violence and firearms, and investigations involving survivor vulnerability. She also served with the Counter Terrorism Command, working again both within proactive and reactive stances. She was a fully trained and experienced Tier 3 and 5 investigative interviewer and strategic lead. She is also a PIP Level 3 registered SIO, having experience within specialised investigation as a detective inspector, and detective chief inspector.

She has significant experience in public protection and safeguarding, with key working with Social Services on domestic abuse and sexual violence. She was the recipient of the 2010 Violence Against Women and Girls ‘White Ribbon’ when with Lambeth Borough. Later, as a member of Senior Leadership Teams, on the Basic Command Unit covering Bromley, Sutton, and Croydon boroughs, she was strategic lead responsible for collaboration with Social Services in terms of Child Abuse Investigation Team. She integrated delivery of protection through a ‘one door’ process.

She chaired Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences on numerous London Boroughs. She was also an accomplished Chair of Multi Agency Public Protection at MAPPA (Level 3- Serious) where she worked with the National Probation Service to manage some of London’s most serious and dangerous sex offenders.

As Detective Superintendent on Lambeth and Southwark, she was head of CID proactive (including gangs) as well as reactive policing. This included the Violence Suppression Unit. She led Lambeth’s Public Health Approach to the ‘disrupt and deter’ offenders. She was also Tactical Tasking and Coordination Group chair which included external stakeholders.

Nicky is a trained promotion assessor and has been involved in numerous processes for many years for the Met’. She also coaches on a one-to-one basis and she has led promotion masterclasses to groups in her spare time to assist her colleagues. Nicky has a great interest in training and is working toward formal qualifications starting with a Level 3 Certificate in Education and Training.
