Chris Donaldson

Former Chief Inspector

Firearms, Public Order

Chris spent 30 years in operational uniform policing, retiring in 2013. He specialised in Public Order and Firearms matters.

He was a public order expert, with key leadership and in depth experience at Levels 1 and 2 as a Public Order Commander. Chris was a member of the Metropolitan Police Territorial Support Group, specialising in riot control and mobile uniform crime response in support of Borough Policing and other specialised units.

He received numerous commendations during his career with respect to his public order specialism, he received one for leadership at the 2011 London Riots, and another for his role in the Command Team at the 2012 Olympics Games.

He had a long period with the Met’s Specialised Firearms Command, where he served as a sergeant and inspector on the Armed Response Vehicles, receiving several commendations for leadership and courage.
Chris also spent time as a Temporary Chief Inspector on the busy borough of Haringey before retirement in 2013.

Throughout his career he was a trained promotion assessor, and a selector for the Firearms Command.

A comfortable public speaker, he delivered recruitment lectures at a pan European policing conference in Holland, and he has delivered PREVENT training across the country to senior school governors and British Army personnel.

Since his retirement Chris has been an event manager at Wembley stadium for the FA. He is also a specialist police script advisor working with many writers and producers, including Danny Boyle, Sam Bain, and Jess Armstrong. As well as regularly advising TV dramas for the BBC, ITV and Sky. He has also provided personal security for a range of ‘A list’ celebrities including George and Amal Clooney and Pippa Middleton.
